Rising above the blue waters of the Arabian Gulf just north of Doha’s corniche, the St. Regis melds the brand’s urbanity with traditional Arabic touches that range from indoor water gardens to wooden panels inspired by mashrabiya latticework. Two dome-crowned towers, which opened in March, house 266 rooms and 70 suites, all with subdued color schemes, mosaic tile work, and custom-milled cabinetry. Service is reliably high-caliber, as are the dining options: the impressive lineup includes two Gordon Ramsay restaurants—one a bistro-style venue, the other an elegant dining room headed by Michelin-starred chef Gilles Bosquet—and a branch of London’s famed Hakkasan.
An outpost of New York jazz club Jazz at Lincoln Center has now debuted—big news for a city short on nightlife. Situated in the fast-emerging commercial center of West Bay, the hotel is an ideal address for business travelers, though it does not stint on leisure facilities. Among them are an Olympic-size swimming pool, oceanfront cabanas, and a Remède spa, where some of the treatments use pure pearl extracts in a nod to Qatar’s pearl-faring past.
