A tent among temples? That’s the latest offering from Mekong-region specialists Khiri Travel who, in tandem with local villagers, has pitched a pair of roomy gore-tex tents alongside the ruins of Banteay Chhmar, an Angkorian temple complex in northeast Cambodia. Khiri’s Jack Bartholomew calls the initiative “a low-impact and rewarding way to enjoy Khmer heritage and give back to the local community.” It’s also a chance to see some off-the-beaten-path countryside, as getting there takes three and a half hours in a 4×4 from Siem Reap. –David Tse
