A video by newsreel archive British Pathé shows the painstaking attention to detail that went into manual globe-making, a craft that dates all the way back to 1432. From molding the sphere to putting the last coat of varnish onto the finished product, the entire process took more or less 15 hours, requiring a steady hand and keen eyesight all the way through. As the narrator explains, these globes came in a wide variety of types and sizes, with 90% made for export.
