Hong Kong Nightlife: Tazmania Ballroom

If you thought that pool halls were all sticky carpet and lukewarm beer, think again. Dragon-i founder Gilbert Yeung’s latest Hong Kong venture, Tazmania Ballroom (1/F, LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham St., Central; 852/2801-5009; tazmaniaballroom.com), blends glamour and games in a space that would not be out of place in a Bond film. “Only the cool or connected need apply,” says Yeung of the lounge, outfitted by British design maven Tom Dixon with faux bookshelves, steel-buttressed walls, and three gold-plated snooker tables, which can be raised to the ceiling by pulleys to reveal a huge dance floor. Dr. Martens–shod waiters deliver platters of dim sum and creative cocktails—try the potent “Funk Me Up,” with Amaretto, vodka, Midori, and Malibu—to guests lounging on the large outdoor terrace, overlooking the neon-draped buildings of Lan Kwai Fong.–David Tse
