—THE FOOD While the hotel’s design won’t be to everyone’s taste, its two restaurants will. At the Kitchen Table, live cooking stations serve unpretentious fare from India, Japan, China, and beyond, while signature surf-and-turf restaurant Skirt sources beef from as far afield as the Argentine pampas, dry-aging it in-house before preparing it à la parilla or asador-style under the watchful eye of executive chef Matthew Woolford, formerly of W Retreat Koh Samui. The seared scallops with dashi are excellent, as are the Australian Wagyu steaks.

—THE FACILITIES The rain forest–inspired Away Spa offers a calming escape from the flash of the rest of the hotel; look for the vibrating outdoor lounge chairs and dry flotation room. Just beyond the spa and gym area, the W’s sprawling swimming pool is a great place to loll around, or in—it features more than 20 underwater speakers, as well as private cabanas and a swim-up bar.
