With Chinese folklore infused into its DNA and Dutch design darling Marcel Wanders behind its vivacious look, the Mira Moon (852/2643-8888; doubles from US$361) is bringing a shot of chinoiserie chic to an otherwise nondescript corner of Wan Chai’s Jaffe Road. A 91-room sister property of The Mira over in Kowloon, the new hotel takes its inspiration from the legend of Chang’e, the moon goddess, and her magical companion the Jade Rabbit, with lunar and leporine references found throughout (rooms, accordingly, are designated New Moon, Half Moon, Full Moon, and Moonshine). Wanders’s bright-red tulip chairs make an appearance among the flamboyant furnishings, while guest rooms feature timber-paneled ceilings, wavy surfaces, and Bisazza mosaic-tiled bathrooms. On hand as well is Super Giant, a cheekily named restaurant serving what it bills as “Spanish-Chinese fusion tapas,” which sounds like a story in itself. –Tom Haley
