Hong Kong Restaurants: La Marmite

A new Parisian-styled bistro in Hong Kong is shining light on an otherwise scantly lit corner of Soho. Contemporary and inviting, La Marmite (46 Staunton St., Central; 852/2803-7808) is the latest offering by the Aqua group, famed more for the decor of their restaurants than the service. But La Marmite’s service to date, combined with a menu of wallet-friendly dishes with their roots in unpretentious French classics, gives hope to savvy diners. Be sure to try the signature foie gras crème brûlée and the whiting in caramelized caper butter, washed down with a selection from the restaurant’s short but well-rounded wine list. –Nicholas Walton
