As the final cost of US$12 million can attest, no expense was spared when it came to renovating all 368 studios and suites at the Four Seasons Hotel New York. The recently unveiled interiors remain in step with the modern-deco style of I.M. Pei—who designed the original hotel—but take the luxe factor up a notch. Custom king-sized beds with illuminated pedestals, furnishings handmade from rare Japanese tamo ash, and a selection of original artwork are just some of the new features found in the sleek, monochrome guest quarters. Bathrooms clad in beige Italian marble come fitted with deep soaking tubs, many doubling as Jacuzzis, while ziggurat ceilings add to the sense of space in the bedrooms and living areas. Perhaps the only thing that hasn’t changed is the jaw-dropping view over Central Park and the skyscraper canyons of Midtown Manhattan.
