An unexpected beneficiary of Andy Murray’s championship-winning streak, this defunct country hotel in Perthshire was procured by the Scottish tennis ace last year and transformed into the just-opened Cromlix (Kinbuck; 44-1786/822-125; doubles from US$335). Situated near Murray’s hometown of Dunblane, the 140-year-old manor house now sports 15 elegant, individually designed rooms and suites; an Albert Roux restaurant that marries French techniques with local ingredients (think Loch Fyne scallops, wild rabbit, Ayrshire beef); and, not unexpectedly, tennis courts. Other outdoor pursuits range from archery, quad biking, and clay shooting to trout fishing in the estate’s private lake, while guests with a taste for Victoriana will want to visit Cromlix’s chapel, replete with regimental drums, bagpipes, tapestries, and an original organ. –Gabrielle Lipton
