Gearing up for a second act, Midtown Manhattan’s storied, music-centric Buckingham Hotel, which hosted a slew of maestros, opera greats, and jazz virtuosos in its 82-year history, will reopen this Fall as The Quin (101 West 57th St.; thequinhotel.com; doubles from US$499). A tip-to-toe renovation by architectural design firm Perkins Eastman has upped the 1929 Beaux-Arts building’s room count from 104 to 200, making the warm-toned guest quarters smaller but more sophisticated. As a further enticement to culture buffs, the hotel will feature a permanent gallery of paintings by Irish artist Patrick Graham, as well as a salon that pays homage to onetime resident Georgia O’Keeffe. Its location, however, remains among its top draws: Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the Museum of Modern Art are just a short stroll away.
