Hoof It With HK’s Foodie Tour

Moveable Feast

It’s a good thing the new Sham Shui Po Foodie Tour (852/2850-5006; hongkong foodietours.com; US$89 per ticket) is done on foot—you’ll need the exercise to walk off the caloric intake. Lasting nearly four hours, the tasting tour of northwest Kowloon’s scrappy old Sham Shui Po neighborhood starts at a traditional cha chan teng (teahouse) before carrying on to another five family-run eateries, each with its own specialty: fresh handmade egg noodles; put chai ko clay-pot pudding at a 60-year-old shop; and Teochew fare with a local twist. Between bites, local guides fill you in on the working-class area’s landmarks and cultural attractions, many of which have retained the charm and character of Hong Kong’s colorful past.
