Taipei Hotel Scene All Shook Up by the W

Celebrating its grand opening on Valentine’s Day, W Taipei (10 Zhongxiao East Rd., Sec. 5, Xinyi; 886-2/7703-8888; starwoodhotels.com; doubles from US$517) aims to shake up the local hotel scene with the brand’s trademark blend of chic and cheek. W habitués will be familiar with the lineup: hip concierges, a Living Room lounge, a sexy Woo Bar, and 405 smartly crafted guest rooms with Munchie Boxes, signature beds, and names like Fabulous and Wow. But there’s also plenty here to remind you that you’re smack in the middle of the Taiwanese capital, from contemporary Chinese restaurant Yen to views of the city’s soaring skyline and lush mountains. –David Tse
