The latest big-name art space to open in Hong Kong has taken up residence in Central’s Pedder Building, a 1920s Neoclassical landmark that also houses Pearl Lam Galleries and a branch of American collector Larry Gagosian’s eponymous gallery empire. Lehmann Maupin (12 Pedder St.; 852/2530-0025) is the first overseas outpost of New York gallerists Rachel Lehmann and David Maupin, who hired Dutch architectural heavyweight Rem Koolaas to design the 340-square-meter space. The opening exhibition features a new series of drawings and polyurethane sculptures (pictured above) by leading South Korean artist Lee Bul, while May brings a group show themed around the use of written language—signs, imprints, calligraphy—in Western and Asian art, which will coincide with the Hong Kong debut of Art Basel. –Jessie Tan
