Kuala Lumpur Restaurants: The Press Room

Unlike many French restaurants in K.L., The Press Room eschews fine dining and fancy menus in favor of hearty brasserie fare. Foie gras makes an obligatory appearance on the menu, served with a dollop of Muscat jelly, while caramelized red onions accessorize a blissfully moist goat’s-cheese tart. Mains like coq au vin and steak frites are generously portioned—the venison with stewed plums and potato rösti could easily feed two. Like the food, the dining room is homey and understated: think dark wood floors, banquette seating, and a curving wooden ceiling that recalls a wine barrel. Don’t spend all your time indoors though—The Press Room might be located in a mall, but it has one of the Malaysian capital’s most appealing outdoor patios (G/F, Bangsar Shopping Center, 285 Jl. Maarof, Bukit Bandaraya; 60-3/2095-2098). –Sari Wijaya
